Liquibox is dedicated to continuous innovation

and process improvement, because it helps us expand our offering of sustainable packaging solutions with products that are safe, high-quality and environmentally sound.

We recognize that our continued success depends on our making and delivering products that are both environmentally and socially responsible.

Therefore, our environmental efforts are local and global in scope and impact. As we expand our footprint, we will minimize our environmental impact, while ensuring sustainable sourcing and efficient business operations.

The Flexible Packaging Advantage

Packaging is a means to protect, transport, store and prolong the life of the product contained within. Our sustainable packaging goes to the next level, as compared to other alternatives, by reducing energy consumption, generating less CO2 emissions and using less overall material, resulting in less waste. As such, Liquibox is continually searching for ways to streamline the production, shipping and end-of-life processes on all our products to reduce environmental impact and save resources and cost.

Saving materials and shipping energy benefits us, but it also benefits our customers, and in turn, their customers. Some of the benefits of flexible packaging over rigid packaging are:

  • Flexible packaging typically uses less energy and less materials
  • Flexible packagingcreates less waste in the first place through source reduction, which uses the smallest amount of materials possible to package a product
  • Flexible packaging only represents about 2% of municipal solid waste

Below are some comparisons between flexible packaging and rigid packaging options. The substantial variation in resources used through the life cycle of each packaging option can be surprising!

Flexible Packaging Saves Transportation Miles and Fuel Consumption

The chart below shows the materials required to package 60 pounds of product. The 97% reduction of total material that flexible packaging generates, as compared to glass, means that more product can be packaged with substantially less energy and shipping consumption than rigid packaging. This reduction benefits you and your customers, and reduces carbon emissions.

End-of-life Transportation

Lightweight, Flexible and Sustainable Packaging Improves Transportation Efficiency

Flexible packaging delivers more products with less waste and takes us less space than comparable alternatives, which leads to reduced shipping emissions and impact by:

  • Reducing fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emission
  • Lessening highway wear/tear and congestion

Liquibox’s Environmental Advantage

Liquibox is continually developing innovative ways to reduce both environmental impact and waste. One example is our Helical® evacuation device. Every drop of beverage concentrate is very valuable to global beverage companies and their customers. Beverage concentrate waste is a huge concern that has challenged the fountain beverage industry for many years.

Independent lab testing and trade use has shown that the Helical evacuation device evacuates more than 99% of all beverage concentrate from the bag-in-box, regardless of its orientation. By doing so fountain beverage customers have touted less waste and reduced environmental impact with key customers.

As we continue to seek out advancements that will reduce our material waste and environmental impact. Liquibox is dedicated to finding the next reduction in environmental impact and sharing its advantages with our stakeholders.

Reducing Manufacturing Waste

We strive to reduce the amount of waste generated during production of all our products. Whatever waste we do produce is recycled, as much as possible, to reduce the amount of material being sent to landfills. In recent years, we have been working to minimize the environmental impact of our manufacturing sites. The following is an example of these reductions.

Ashland has been working since 2011 to reduce landfill waste. We are proud to say that as of February 2014, our Ashland site is 100% landfill free!

Packaging is critical to modern lifestyle and food safety, and generally saves more resources than it consumes.

Flexible packaging reduces landfill waste, while preserving and protecting products until they are consumed.
