Liquibox celebrates grand opening of Madrid super-factory

September 14, 2021

Liquibox held a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for their newest Center of Excellence in Madrid, Spain, a move that will strengthen the company’s position as a leader of sustainable bag-in-box packaging in the European market.

Liquibox is thrilled to announce the grand opening of their new state-of-the-art site in Madrid. The 140,000-sq-ft facility is fully operational—over 170 employees fill the building with Liquibox’s dedicated and innovative spirit to produce essential flexible packaging solutions.

As the flexible packaging company continues to expand their global reach, they are confident the new Madrid site will allow them to grow their business into new markets and better serve their current customers. Headquartered in the U.S., the location was a strategic decision for Liquibox. In fact, they have invested $10 million in the EMEA region over the past two years. Liquibox says that the move is in alignment with their global strategy to create regional Centers of Excellence, providing great service to customers, process innovation, career opportunities and environmental responsibility.

“This new facility is a testament to the direction we are moving as a company—with a stronger focus on operational excellence, innovation, sustainability and a dedicated passion to produce reliable quality packaging,” says Andrew McLeland, Liquibox Chief Operating Officer

As a result of their investment in innovation, the state-of-the-art facility features the latest technology for bag-in-box manufacturing. Additionally, the factory will focus on minimizing their environmental footprint to further align with their company purpose. For example, they committed to send zero waste to landfill and incorporated energy-efficient equipment throughout the building.

Following the ceremonial ribbon cutting by Ken Swanson, Liquibox CEO, the Madrid site is officially online. The company was excited to announce that after all the hard work and dedication from the Liquibox Spain team, the Madrid Center of Excellence is equipped to take on the increasing market demand for bag-in-box packaging.

In addition, members of the local Madrid government were there to welcome Liquibox to Madrid, including Mr. Fernández Lasquetty, Regional Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment, Mr. Casariego, Councilman of Vicálvaro district and Mr. Garrido, President of CEIM. From Liquibox, members of the leadership team including Ken Swanson, CEO, Paul Kase, CMO & CIO, Andrew McLeland, COO, and Angela Kenyon, CHRO were in Madrid to offer opening speeches and answer questions from the government representatives and journalists.
